Extra wiring for the angel eyes! I've used 1mm wire to extend them out of the bowl. The plastic bowls are miles better, easy to make the extra holes and will never rust! All threads copper greased after the trouble I had removing them! Backplates were fixed using stainless M4 bolts. Just need to get some decent bulbs, oh and fit the wiring loom! Mind you, next job is to finish off engine compartment with hoses and ignition parts. ![]() |

Sorry for no updates as there is nothing further to report. I've been busy doing other things and now Christmas is closing in so looks like the car will have to wait until the new year and when the weather improves. I have tried to do a bit, but it's been a bit cold! Anyhow, all the best to all on here and have a nice Christmas break! Fitting out will recommence soon! |

Quoted from Demps Hi Mark, Sorry for lack of response! Not been on here for a while and project is just coming out of hibernation! I bought the paint in bulk off ebay. Can't remember how many tins I bought but I've got a load left! I think you will need 2 tins per panel roughly, so about 24 @ 500ml. If you go on ebay you'll find sellers offering 12 or 24 tins. It's about £55 for 12. I bought about the same in laquer. I also bought quite a bit of red oxide primer by Upol. I found the Upol nozzles the best and fitted these to the Simoniz tins for the top coat application. Unfortunately my laquer has become a bit speckled in places due to being under a cover over winter! I suppose I've still got plenty of paint for touch up. My advice is to try and store in a garage after painting if possible, or at least under a carport. The finish is presentable for a rally car I guess, but I am considering doing a partial wrap in carbon fibre! Will get the car running first! Hopefully this summer! |

Well winter did stop play and March saw the arrival of my new daily driver! My MG6 Magnette is now in the hands of my Mrs so still in the family. I've had it from new and it never missed a beat. A great car, despite what the press may tell you! Anyhow, the new arrival in March delayed progress on the TR, but this weekend saw the covers come off for the first time this year. As mentioned above, was disappointed to see the lacquer had become acne-fied in places. Not sure why, but must be down to cold temperatures in conjunction with cold damp atmosphere under cover. The same has happened to my Montego Turbo which was professionally resprayed about 5 years ago. I might get away with flatting and cutting back, but I'm also considering a carbon fibre wrap and ditching the rally colours! I'd leave the cills and back panel red and maybe the front valance. The arches will remain white. Should look striking especially if I go for the fastback rear buttresses I talked about. Food for thought, but will get it started first! ![]() |

Haha, so is right hand drive lol! Mind you the mpg has dropped a little! Since filling up last week I'm down to 23.5mpg pure urban stop start including the odd squirt of the right foot! Absolutely love driving it and it seems everyone else likes to see it about, especially when surrounded by Audis and BMWs everywhere you go! A breath of fresh air on German infested UK roads! |

First bit of progress this year! New coolant hoses and stainless clips fitted, as well as new oil pressure switch, new starter motor and new alternator and belt. Oh, also fitted the new clutch slave cylinder complete with Goodridge hose ready for bleeding! I'm still awaiting a return hose from top of waterpump to back of inlet manifold. I'm not fitting a heater, so pipe will go straight int back of inlet manifold. Next time I'll finish off fuel pipes to holley and maybe electric rad fan. Still need to pipe up front calipers to the flexi hoses too. After that the wiring loom will be re-fitted. ![]() |

Electric fan in place ready for wiring. Also cleaned the electronic distributor components and re-fitted with new rotor arm, new cap and new leads. I hope I got the leads in the right place. The Haynes manual gives you the firing order but fails to identify cylinder 1 on the dizzy cap! Mind you I think it's self explanatory as it talks about cylinder 1 piston being at top dead centre and gives the rotor arm position for this. If I'm correct, cylinder 1 on the dizzy cap is the lead just before the bottom cap clip in terms of clockwise rotation of rotor arm. Anyone on here confirm this? Don't worry, the pic below shows the rotor arm in a random position not TDC for cylinder 1. ![]() |

Quoted from Beans Thanks Beans and Scrapman. My engine was from an SD1 so came with the electrionic distributor ( 35DE8 ) so no points. S&S fitted the Piranha amplifier instead of the original when they converted it. I'll just connect the yellow wire straight to -ve at coil then, cheers guys! |

Hi All, just a quick update. Not got any pics yet, but replaced steering column bushes with poly lower and refurbed the column and bracket. Dash not fitted but all looms bar the doors are all connected up just so I could get the engine warning lights working, Well, today I was very close to firing up the engine! Fresh fuel in the tank, new coolant, new oil in engine, box and diff, checked the oil light was working, checked coolant hose clips and fuel clips and turned the key. The engine turns nicely but would not fire. Then I could hear trickling of fuel from carb! Looks like the seals in the holley fuel rail have perished! I just wanted to see if it would fire, so wrapped the fuel rail with cloths and kept trying but to no avail. I've got a Holley refurb kit on the way but need to work out why it doesn't fire. I'm wondering if the oil pressure is down and the valve lifters aren't working? The oil light is on when you turn the ignition on and then goes out when cranking, so looks ok? Maybe I've got the HT leads wrong? More head scratching for now but I'm close! Hopefully soon it'll be up and running! |
