Thanks Beans. I need to do a bit of painting inside and then can concentrate on the electrics and mechanicals. I'm removing the rocker covers and sump for inspection and cleaning, then I'll start fitting the engine bay ancillaries. I've got many new components such as clutch slave and master cylinders, coil and other ignition parts and hoses. Maybe new starter and altenrator and then fuel up! |

Painted the inside today. I had already Bonda primed it a while ago and seam sealed the welds at weekend. ![]() |

More progress at weekend. Basically removed the gearbox mounting bracket to clean and paint as well as clean the gearbox. The bracket was especially grimy and the gearbox mount had certainly seen better days! Luckily I obtained a spare a couple of decades ago! I think I must have been planning on changing it then by the looks of the mount! Although I've refitted the nicely painted brackets and new mount I will be removing as I have decided to to remove the gearbox and clean this inside as well as fitting an uprated clutch kit. At this stage would be crazy not to! ![]() |

Ok, today I managed to detach the gearbox from the engine and clean up the very grimy bell-housing inside. I've replaced the clutch arm and bearing as well as the pushrod and clip. I've also bolted up a new uprated clutch plate and pressure plate ready to receive the gearbox. However. there is a bit of play in the input shaft and not sure if this is normal. Does anyone know? If the play is excessive then I'm going to have to replace the box and from what I can see they ain't cheap! I was going to remove the front cover inside the bell-housing to check the oil seal and bearing but couldn't lever it off with the bellhousing still in place. Problem is the gearbox is balanced on the jack and chocked under the bell-housing at the moment. I need to get advice on the play before re-fitting the box. ![]() |

New clutch and pressure plates bolted to cleaned flywheel. Just need to investigate the input shaft play and maybe get a recon box ![]() |

After much deliberation I decided to refit the old gearbox despite the slight play in the input shaft. Apparently it is a common problem with the LT77 box and most cars out there will have a bit of play. I'll get the car running and see how it goes. My attention has now moved to the engine. Basically removed the rocker covers, Holley and inlet manifold for a thorough clean. The rockers were especially coked up! I spent most of Sunday removing the thick layer of carbon deposit! The Offenhauser inlet manifold was very clean inside but treated to a good lean and UHT paint on the outside. I've started to polish the outside of the rockers to, but need a lot more! ![]() |

Rockers, manifold and carb loosely planted back on top of the engine. I'm awaiting a new composite inlet manfiold gasket complete with new rubber seals and clamps before refitting. The inside of the engine looks in good fettle, ![]() |

Cleaned the engine a bit under the inlet manifold gasket. Wasn't too bad but there was a coating of old oil and carbon on the face of the block in this location. ![]() |
