I fitted an Ally Bar rollover bar to my DHC.  To provide clearance for the hood the bar comes up to about 3/4 of the way up the rear view panel.  This means that when I look through the rear view mirror the view is obscured by the rollover bar.  I have tried a number of mods to the rear view mirror to lower it by about 6" to avoid this, but none of the mods I have tried allow vibration free vision or retain the original safety features of the mirror.

Has anyone else recognised this problem and even better got any ideas how to get better rearward vision?

Mount one to the cage!
There are plenty of universal ones for kit cars etc, so you won't need to drill the cage, just make a clamp.  :)

An Ally Bar is just a bar at the back.  It is not a cage, so there is nothing at the front to mount it off.  

I have been thinking about mounting the mirror from the top of the dash, but that would be rigid and not have the break away feature of the Triumph mirror in the event of banging it with your head.

Most modern cars glue the mirror to the windscreen, so maybe that would be worth a try.

Howard, I currently have a stick on mirror, but it is directly in line of sight when you are looking for the apex of a left hand corner.  I could live with it as far as rear view is concerned, but I would like to do better.  That means bringing the mirror to the same position as the original but about 6" lower and I would like to retain feature that if you knock it (with your head in an accident) it breaks away.

Sounds like a job for a camera and screen, if there are any decent ones that accommodate for varying light intensity.
Switch to mirror image so similar image to what you are used to.
Mounting camera on bar would change it from nuisance to useful.

Another crazy thought. Have you considered mounting  mirror above the window frame?  At one time I was thinking about using a spare front part of a hood frame to secure a lightweight cover, but it would also work for mounting a mirror (when the hood was down) and would easily remove when the hood was up. Screw one of those wide taxi driver type mirrors direct onto it and you would have amazing rear view.

I had not thought of that one and yes it would give 20/20 hindsight   ;)   Good for the 10CR but not so for the RBRR.  

Mirrors are not the TR7s strongest point.  I wish the door windows were not split so that you could get a clear view through the door mirrors.  The TR7 was not designed with an Ally Bar in mind, so I should not be critical of the rear view mirror, which has good safety features probably not found on other Triumphs, except perhaps the Acclaim.  However by fitting the Ally Bar I have messed up the rear view. Obviating that by fitting a stick on mirror I have messed up the forward view to the left quarter by putting the mirror in the line of sight. That is my real problem as I can see as well as possible with an Ally Bar in place out of the back.

If I can bring the mirror away from the screen by about a foot that will stop it creating the blind spot, but if supported from the screen or the mirror mount it will vibrate as the mounting bracket will be about 18" long.  I don't want to fit an exterior post mirror on the dash board as it won't have the breakaway facility of the Triumph mirror and I may need the space for something else.

Actually no - Tanks were designed to Triumph on the battle field :)

Yes up to 22 mph.   825 BHP would be good in a TR7, but 5 usGal/mile I am not too keen on.  Bit like a 2000/2500 saloon.
