That is pretty normal on a TR7/Dolomite 1850 engine. ![]() 1976 TR7 FHC (currently undergoing some TLC ...) 1980 TR7 DHC (a.k.a. Kermette, my first car bought in 1988 ) 1981 TR7 FHC (Sprint engined, a.k.a. 't Kreng) http://tr7beans.blogspot.com/ |

8623 wrote: ... As you may have read, we are going to rebuilt the current engine. But we also want to tune it a bit. Any tips on tuning the 8 valve engine? In my DHC I have a moderately tuned 8 valve engine, a short summary of the work done; • The camshaft is a by now rather old Triumph Tune TT10204 - 280° duration and almost 10 mm lift; • The bottom end of the engine is standard save for a +0,002" re-bore; • Head skimmed slightly to get an approximate 10:1 compression ratio; (If time and or funds allow it would be a good idea to port the head for better flow.); • Slimmer stainless steel valves with uprated single springs and bronze alloy valve guides; • Standard SU HS6 carburettors HS6 with ram pipes and deep KN filters and new needles; • 4-2-1 tubular exhaust manifold with 2" bore exhaust system; • Lumenition ignition kit for standard AC Delco distributor; • Lightened flywheel (minus 1,5 kg if I remember well), but that doesn't add any horses, but improves pick up from lower revs. It was set up on a rolling road to get the carburettor needles and timing spot on (some tinkering with the ignition timing and advance curve). With about 135 hbp @ the flywheel it used to be a pretty fast car with the original 3.90:1 back axle ratio. It now has a 3.45:1 diff fitted. It is still a quick car but the sharp edges are a bit of the performance. The good thing is that it pulls quite well from 1500rpm. And I like to see it as a quick and comfortable long distance touring car now. And as such she has proved herself several times over the past years. ![]() 1976 TR7 FHC (currently undergoing some TLC ...) 1980 TR7 DHC (a.k.a. It is one great construction. I got a tip from a friend (after the damage was already done), he used to work on Saab engines (same story), they put the studs one night in coca cola. Apparently that should work according to him. |

It's always the spares you don't carry with you, that you need :P ![]() 1976 TR7 FHC (currently undergoing some TLC ...) 1980 TR7 DHC (a.k.a. Kermette, my first car bought in 1988 ) 1981 TR7 FHC (Sprint engined, a.k.a. 't Kreng) http://tr7beans.blogspot.com/ |

Too late now I know but someone did say about running the car up to temperature and then attacking the studs. |

That might be a good idea, as long as the engine is in the car ![]() 1976 TR7 FHC (currently undergoing some TLC ...) 1980 TR7 DHC (a.k.a. Kermette, my first car bought in 1988 ) 1981 TR7 FHC (Sprint engined, a.k.a. 't Kreng) http://tr7beans.blogspot.com/ |

Haha indeed, I think English (Triumphs) cars feel when they can take you down (he must have known we did not have a spare rotor with us) and annoy you haha. Despite that we had good fun. Really well organised. Has anyone tried it out with the car on temperature??? Too late for us, but maybe we can save the studs of somebody else. |
