Hi Folks, I've had this problem recur a couple of times and thought I had fixed it but I got caught out with it again yesterday. In the top cover of the mechanical fuel pump there are two Non-Return Valves (NRV's) One of these valves is not fitted tight enough and originally dropped down and sat on the diaphragm - easily sorted IF you know whats happening. I had peened the surround of the hole to lock the valve in place and also fitted a retaining washer - but the cunning blighter still escaped.

Presuming it's fairly new, take it back to the supplier as not fit for purpose. Never really satisfactory bodging it as you have had to. Tony. If all else fails-Read the Instructions! 1998 Rover 600. Honda in disquise. |

Hi Tony, it is over 20 years old so I think the warranty has expired. Some faults on these repro parts do not show themselves too quickly. The repair I have carried out is engineered

I would not trust a replacement mechanical pump as the last one I brought intermittently put out 9 lb of pressure. I have now gone for an electric pump no problems. Buy from a reputable supplier, return unsatisfactory items, or else get a good glass-top pump and service it yourself periodically. I don't reckon any pump was ever designed to run for twenty years... :) Somewhere amongst all of these mega signatures, there might even be a post. |

Hi Dave, very possibly. never thought of that. My mechanical clamp should hold it in place.

I have left mechanical pumps behind, now fitted Hucos to both my Saloon and GT6, no problem etc etc Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run: Part of the organising team, and honoured to be associated 1970 TR6 Maroon. Bought May 2018. Since pruchase: Full suspension re-build, new clutch and propshaft plus re-built driveshafts. Goes well. Blimey, lots more done now, gearbox replaced (Canley Classics unit), 7J black minilites c/w Uniroyal tyres (Crikey, un-stickable), Revington's Targa springs. Now needs some engine work and some brakes. Otherwise, well on its way to becoming a Club Triumph type car, i.e. one that is actually used! Previously owned: Triumph Dolomite Sprint (Now owned by Paul Hughes) Herald 1200 Coupe on mk2 chassis (Now owned by Jess Cook and being properly used) Vitesse mk2 Conv: Sold in 1983, still on the road! That's ok if you're into that, but for people who like the original parts and the challenge of making them work as they should, it's not really an option. Somewhere amongst all of these mega signatures, there might even be a post. |

Hi Tim/Colin, I'm happy with the older technology and I'm happy with most repro parts. Annoyingly they can and do go pop. But then one has the opportunity to improve the cheapo part. I defy this bl**dy pump to fail again.

How about fitting an electric pump (I took Tim's advice a couple of years ago and fitted a Huco), wire it in (take fuse out) and only connect it up if you are stuck up a mountain? Best of both worlds. Don Cook |
