I'm sorely tempted to get this. Trouble is it's at the other end of the country and would cost as much to ship it as the car cost. What's the value of one of these now in U.K. Thanks.

looks like it could be a genuine unmolested mk2 pi, if you want it have a chat with the seller he says in the ad it wont be relisted again, never no you might get it for less

That car is for sale, "Buy it now" for UK£1000!  Bite his hand off!  That car has obviously been dry-stored and is in near pristine condition!

But, yes, Invercargill is the Thurso of New Zealand,  as far south as you can live!   Presume you're on North Island, Nang? So about 1000 miles between you, and the Cook Straight.
If you have, or can hire, a trailer, and have a suitable tow car, then I'd say it's economic:   Less than NZ$150 for fuel both ways, double that to include trailer hire, plus $400 for the ferry,  NZ$700 and it's in your garage!
Commercial trailer transport will be more, of course.

OR, is the car driveable?   Can you fly/rail down and drive it back?    What an adventure!

Hope you can work out how to buy it!

Its a beauty - quick buff with a wheel and sort the injection - NZ Pi's were beautifully trimmed - best made PI's in the world

Unfortunately it doesn't drive , so yes a trailer or truck job. I'm also in Hawke's Bay, half way up the North Island. My only car with a towbar is my 2500 TC. Probably a bit too much of a drag for her.
I'll have to think about it.

I have A-Framed my Charger behind my Wife's Toyota Corolla once during winter, very exciting!! More than once.
My Herald used to A-Frame my Vitesse, and my 2500 Estate road trailers my Triumph 2000, so not too much of a drag for the car, more like too much of a drag for the driver (whistle)(whistle)(whistle)

Respect! About 25 years ago I rescued a Mk2 PI and trailered it back home behind my 2000 Mk2. A very scary journey, I will never forget it. Anything above 40mph and the combination tried to do nasty things. That journey took ages but we got there in the end.  
The 2000 had no problems in getting my TR4 a year later.

I'd be cautious about towing with an A-frame for 860 miles!  
In the UK they are effectively illegal , as most cars towed will weigh over 750kgs and as it is considered to be a trailer must have operating brakes.  See:  https://www.gov.uk/government/.....p;    A few systems can do that and you see them on tiny cars towed behind motor homes.

But a T2500, with a towbar, would be an excellent tow car, and I can see several NZ companies offering transporter trailer hire.
This webpage has a 1969 assessment of various cars' towing capcity, including the T2.5. http://www.thomson-caravans.co.uk/advice/caravanadvice/1969towingcars.htm
It cites a manufacturer's maximum towing weight of 25 hundredweight (1270kgs) and the 2.5Pi as being less than that (23.5cwt), but of cocurse you would need to consult NZ recommendations on what can be done.    https://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/glovebox-guide-safe-loading-towing/guide-safe-loading-towing.html

I would think you have to include the weight of the car trailer in those calculations, as it will definately exceed the recommended gross train weight with a big saloon on it.
But I hope you still go for it anyway !

I've towed a 2500 behind a 2500 before and wouldn't do it again on our roads . Our hills (called mountains) by some oversea's visitors are a bit of a challenge, especially with an unbraked trailer.
John, $700 is not really realistic, It would take me over a week there and back and I'd have to stay somewhere. I'll keep looking for a truck.

I agrre with you abpout Johns prices being way out, even my diseasel Amarok would use that much fuel to get from Wellington to Invervegas.
Another option would be to get cheap storage down there till you can sort out shipping.
