I'm trying to navigate this site so I hope this is ok to post here? 1980 TR7 DH, thought I'd change points etc then managed to drop and 'lose' advance/retard spring! can 'someone' advise replacements please, also, how on earth do you access retaining nuts to get dizzy out! My 'Haynes' doesn't mention any special spanner so I assume 'one' is out there somewhere? All advice greatly received, Tony, Brentwood, Essex. Admin...thought I was a 'member'?? have I missed a step? |

Hi Tony, I'm not the admin but I will comment that the "non member" tag does not reflect your membership of Club Triumph per se. Rather it's a tag relating to how you are signed up to the web site and forum. It's a bit confusing. The admin (in so far as we have one) may also feel that this thread should be moved to a different part of the forum (there are too many subdivisions of the forum at the moment). You seem to have created it under the "Essex" local group but your questions are more related to TR7 technical matters. So, that said... I don't really have any helpful suggestions, as the only TR7 I've owned was a Sprint. I'm surprised you were even fiddling with the advance springs, unless the TR7 uses that truly horrid upside-down disi like the 1850 Dolomite? I don't think the retaining nuts are particularly bad in relation to the disi body but the whole caboodle is probably inaccessible without removing the cabin air duct and the inlet manifold. Not Triumph's finest design hour.

Tony, Do you have a copy of the original BL workshop manual for your TR7? If you haven't PM me and I will email you a link to my copy (its available on the Web, but not sure where these days as I downloaded mine some years ago) Cheers Howard Le Mans 2007, 08, 09, 10 & 11 |

Quoted from Howard- Good point! That reminded me that I own a paper copy, and I see in section 86.35.20 step 7 that you need special tool S349 to undo the mounting bolts.

New springs are available from Robsport, but they are not perfect. Better than nothing though. The dizzy is bad enough of a TR7 engine in a dolomite, but I understand the TR7 shell takes it to a whole new level of pain. I wish you luck! Clive Senior |

Thanks for your feedback guys, at least I now know what the blasted spanner looks like! the advance/retard sits on top of the points, which is all I was trying to change after she started to cough after a few miles!! could turn out expensive, thanks again for replying. |
