Hey all. Im in the process of rebuilding my 2.5 with a view to taking it on the track, so I reckon an oil cooler is in order. From the Chris witor site he recommends a mocal 16 row for my needs. I ve seen that one, another "competition" one and of course the cheap ebay ones, obviously from very cheap to very dear. Problem is, they all look exactly the same. Are the dearer ones actually better or are they all made in the same factory in China and some have a different sticker slapped on and priced at three times more. I dont want to cheap out and have it wreck my engine, but at the same time I don't want to get ripped off on a brand sticker. Any advice from people that know better would be appreciated. |

Quoted from TedTaylor The difference between the "Oil Cooler" version and the "Standard" version is not just the drilling and tapping of the takeoffs. You also have to blank off an existing oilway. Much better to get a correct one to start with. Have a look at the Think Automotive site (purveyor of MoCol etc) http://www.thinkauto.com/ http://www.thinkauto.com/acatalog/Catalogue_Request.html Triumph Hoover, Location: Billingshurst West Sussex |

As Richard says, the non-oil cooler version has an internal drilling that internally shortcuts the pathway that would otherwise lead through the oil cooler. If you drill and tap and fit the cooler you'll find you get little if any flow through the cooler. Conversely, if you blank off the cooler connections on a "cooler" version you'll not get any oil to the oil galleries as it doesn't have this internal drilling, though there is no reason why why couldn't just have a short external link.
