When I had problems with the Mk1 PI engine, oil pressure when cold poor and when hot VERY poor/non existent, to see if I could get a bit more mileage before a complete rebuild I tried some Penrite oil. Can't remember whether it was 20/60 or 40/70. Mad Uncle Ted! |

Agree with Ted. Use Penrite 20/60 in all my cars. Extra 5/10 psi and all my motors are good. If all else fails-Read the Instructions! 1998 Rover 600. Honda in disquise. |

I always use HPR50 - 40/70 ... which is utter overkill given no oil is burning I suppose, but seems worth doing in the hot weather. 1978 2500 S with Mk1 Pi engine Wade 'crazy' cam on SUs for now http://www.greeksinoz.blogspot.com Greeks in a Defender http://ofnofixedabode.wordpress.com |

I use Penrite for the full Zinc content. I have chopped 2 cams out on other oils with little to no zinc. Going well so far! |

For the record, I use Penrite Classic 20/60, since the engine was rebuilt in my 6 in 2010. It has now covered circa 40K, and driven hard, including track days, sprints, RBRR and 10CR. Oil pressure still fantastic. This oil keeps is viscosity really well. I have also tried Millers motorsport oil last year, as a test. It may have been 20/50. Oil pressure not quite as good, and appeared not to keep its viscosity quite as well. |

I use Penrite on Tessa but given the GT6's propensity towards outrageously high oil pressure I prefer something a tad thinner on that.

Quoted from TedTaylor I've tried that (I think I even replaced it, thinking the previous-but-one owner might have fitted a high pressure one to mask the knackered bearings). When I rebuilt the engine I fitted NOS crank and new oil pump, which I "blueprinted" because the oil pressure had been poor. Ever since then it's been rather on the high side. I don't mind - it only means I have to use less expensive oil ![]()

Looking on the Classic Oils website it's amazing how little ZDDP is in the cheaper brews, but also some of the more expensive stuff isn't exactly overloaded with it either! 1972 Triumph 2000 – first car, daily driver and general hack, done 55,000 miles in my ownership. 2500 engine build 2012, transformed the car! RBRR 2012 entrant AND finisher, despite having to swap a drive shaft on the way round... 1972 TR6 CC – returned to the road in April 2019 for the first time since 1985!
