has anyone got a picture of the sills - where they meet the bodywork at the bottom of the door ? I've attached a photo of mine and they look a mess but I'm not sure what they're supposed to look like - at some point it looks like filler was used to mask the join between the sill and the bodywork.

I think they are meant to be screwed, with j clips but rivets work too. Shut the door and forget it.  After all its a Herald not a Daimler

Looks pretty normal , the body join joggle is pretty normal
as the screw holes were a bit elongated I used a large flat headed pop rivets  to make it neater along the sill but  hex head tappers into the rear section behind the sill
