Hi! New to the thread so bear with me.

I have a 1971 Herald which I bought last July and have run into my first bit of serious trouble with. I was wondering if anyone could help.

The spindle (running from impeller to fan) in the cooling system seems to have snapped in two. My understanding is I need a special bit of kit to get the spindle out of the impeller and then re-set so will likely need to find a garage to do this - unless anyone knows otherwise?

Any ideas why this could have happened? I'm trying to find a cause to avoid it happening again but nothing springs to mind.

As the fan flew off (when the spindle snapped) it caused a degree of damage to the radiator which i think is likely irreparable. Any advice on getting a new radiator?

Thank you for your help!

You will need to buy a new water pump. Unless you can get one made.

Yes, a new water pump and if the radiator is leaking from the damage, a new or reconditioned radiator. In the Uk at least these are easy to find. The good suppliers are Canley classics, james paddocks and others.

The parts are common to some spitfires too, which may make the search easier?

And I have never seen or heard of a water pump snapping. Yes, they can leak, but snapping? maybe just very very unlucky, or it has been hit/abused in  the past.
