Ok here goes. Bought my herald last May with a knocking sound from back end. Replaced offside uj on drive shaft seemed to help a bit. Last weekend the nearside uj fell apart, got it home have replaced same. While under the car disconnected the strap drive prop shaft from the diff took out the youk cleaned and regressed
. When I put it back together the knocking is louder than ever...!!  So we have new uj on drive shafts, greesed the youk at the strap drive. So what I'm thinking for this week is to remove the propshaft from the car, start up the car and put into gear to eliminate the engine & gearbox, if that's okI was going to make  temporary prop out of a pice of pipe and start up if I'm still getting a knocking then it has to be the diff. What's ur thoughts??

Was the new UJ a tight fit? Should be.

Also, most UJ's need oversize circlips, and these are available from the specialists. Can be fitted in situ. Support the back end, remove a circlip and carefully knock the UJ cup in. Fit the oversize circlip. Rotate 90 degrees and repeat. You may get 4 oversize clips in, you may get one.

Regards the prop, how are the UJs in that?
Recently had a chap pop round with his herald, terrible vibration at about 50mph. Really bad.
I had heard that removing the straps and bolting it back together solid can sometimes work (even though itputs the UJ's out ofphase)
Anyway, the car then drove perfectly. One happy Herald owner. Saved buying a new prop. And took 5 mins.
