A bit optimistic with the Asking Price?

Although it seems a straight original car.

Agreed. Maybe good value at half this?

Although seemingly unrestored etc, it's not like it's unrestored and mint - there's a lot of rust creeping through the panel gaps etc.

I reckon the seller's got a quote for the plate from one of these on line dealers and added that to the value of the car.

Yes good point, he states in the Ad that the Number plate is worth £5K?

Still over priced I reckon for a car needing a full restoration

The seller put the plate on retention and tried selling it (unsuccesfully) on ebay for £3000. So he reckons the car itself is worth £10,000.

It's not.

Cheers,
Bill.

Oh dear, please forgive a stupid question, but what marks it out as not a 948 bonnet? Just for interests sake

Air intake grille on the top is slotted instead of the cross-hatched design of the earlier models.  The changeover point would've been around 1962(ish).  The bonnet could've been replaced quite early on in the life of the car......

The bonnet cones are fitted to properly welded brackets; the factory marketed a kit for this kind of post-accidentt conversion, the cones having come into use in the second half of 1962. The air intake panel changed at the end of 1963, so the bonnet (and front valance) change would have happened from 1964 onwards.

Cheers,
Bill.

Interesting since I would've thought that a new front end would have written off a 4 year old + Herald back then....  Especially an obsolete model such as this one which wouldn't have been remotely desirable by 1964.  However, even with the "wrong" front, IMHO this seems a very desirable car now......
