The flasher unit on my Vitesse MkI is causing the indicators to flash at about 180 times per min which is far too fast.  The MoT is looming and I intend replacing the unit before then.

According to my workshop manual the unit is located "behind facia on right hand side of bulkhead" which I take to mean the driver's side of the car.

However my (not always accurate!) ears tell me the ticking is somewhere on the passenger side - possibly near the glove box?

For the life of me I can't find the damn thing. Can anyone give me an accurate location please.

I think you're right. Passenger side,  inside. ..somewhere to the left and below the glove box  area?

Are you sure it's the flasher unit and not a bulb not working ?

My 13/60 has it  in the engine bay close to the battery on the bulkhead by the voltage regulator

As does my 13/60, but my Mk2 Vitesse has a socket that the flasher unit plugs into located high up under the dash on the nearside and fixed to the inner side of the bulkhead. Cheers, Dave.

My Vitesse MK 1 has it up under the dash behind the glove box as others have stated.I would suspect either a blown bulb or more likely a poor earth as others have also stated.

Obviously I did check that all the bulbs were in working order.

Eventually I've found the flasher unit and, as some of you said, it fits in a plug up under the dash behind the glove box so my hearing was pretty accurate!

I came across it quite by chance, when having a feel in that area, I dislodged it and it fell out!  What a ridiculous place to put it.

I can see I'm going to have great fun working out the best way to fit the new unit when it comes.

When I rewire my Vitesse I'm moving the b******d to somewhere more convenient. The 13/60 location is quite accessible!

Success - and I'm feeling rather pleased with myself!!

The new flasher unit arrived today and I've fitted it; the indicators now flash at approx 80 times/min so the old unit was definitely knackered after all.

I cut a hole through the rear corner of the glove box so that, with the aid of an inspection lamp, I could see the socket into which the unit had to be plugged.

Unlike the old unit, the new one had a bracket at the opposite end to the terminals.  I bolted a 5" long piece of wood strip to this which gave me enough length to manoeuvre the unit along behind the glove box, passing it over the top of a section of wiring loom and push it in to the socket.

All I need to do now is repair the glove box by lining it with a suitable material.  It already had a round hole in the bottom anyway where a previous owner had presumably mounted a speaker.
