First post, so here goes. 32yrs ago My Dad bought a herald for my sister's 21st birthday. It was a surprise and I remember working with him on the car and being 11 I was captivated by the smells and look of the car. Now it's my turn, I'm clearing out the garage, joined the club, bought a few books and I am beginning to learn about this little beauty.

First things first, will I fit? I'm 6'4" and would like to comfortably drive her and the family around without making modifications (I had to do this to an old Fiat X1/9, small steering wheel fitted and still touched knees!). I know people say try before you consider buying, so does anyone know a member in the Bracknell, Berkshire area who would be willing to let me sit in and potentially share their insights into the car. Any assistance greatly appreciated!

6'4" not an issue I am sure.

Original seats possibly required and you may wish a slightly smaller wheel if for nothing more that losing the "Route,aster" feel of the original.

With a bit of luck Nick Jones will reply in a minute, he is definitely the wrong side of 6ft and has a Vitesse convertible.

Long legged 6'3" and I fit.  I have MGF seats fitted now, which help a bit by sitting you a bit higher, but the original seats were ok too before the bases fell out of them.  I don't have an especially small steering wheel either.  You can adjust the steering wheel position (needs spanners) to help with this.

There isn't a great deal of space behind me it must be said (MGF seats make this a bit worse maybe) but we did take the kids to Switzerland in it in 2009 when they were 10 & 13 (pic).  They don't really fit now though!

Yes, you should fit but with some issues.  Your eyeline might be close to the top of the windscreen.  A change of seats might be necessary.  Note that there are seatbelt issues with the convertibles - search the forums.

I'm 6 ft, and am fine in mine. I have MX5 seats now - did have Saab seats, but they were too big, & didn't go far enough back because of the wider (to accommodate the folded roof) B post. I do feel a bit hunched over the steering (tummy doesn't help!), but head room is fine.
Re seat belts -get yourself some inertia reels. Mine are bolted to the rear wheel arch - and are fed through the slits in the edge of roof stowage ares behind .the B post.
Took my Vitesse out today for the first time in about 3 months - all well, and so nice to drive!😀

Thanks everyone for the replies. I will see if I can try one out and then consider the seatbelt issues on purchase. I don't think there is a Berkshire club meet, so I might have to explore to find a friendly Herald owner nearby!

I'm 6'3"ish (long body, short legs - so, maybe have the trunk of someone 6'6" who has longer legs!) & don't have a problem in my 1200 convertible. It has 13/60 replacement seats; & they're fine. It's modern cars that normally find the top of my head pressing on the headlining...

I am 6ft 4in and I have 13,60. I do have a smaller steering wheel the main prob is having your legs placed to the right when you use the clutch ect. you will get use to it. (size 12 shoes in the footwell gets close to all peddles).

I too am 6ft 4in and have a 13/60. I have MX5 seats and a 14" steering wheel (I prefer a 13" but my wife says she can't see the instruments, she is only 6ft tall), and yes my size 12 feet can be a problem! My wife thinks the 13/60 is much more fun to drive than any modern front wheel drive car. She's learning fast..

First Triumph: 200cc Tiger Cub. Followed by in no particular order, 350 and 500 Royal Enfield Bullet, Herald 1200, Herald 13/60, Mini 1275 GT, Vitesse 2L convertible, Audi 80, Audi 80 Sport, Fiat 124 Sport Coupe, Triumph 2000, Mk 2 Estate, Fiat Tipo, Fiat Stilo, Fiat Uno, Peugeuot Turbo Diesel(yuk), Lancia HPE 2000ie (wow! a dream!) So far 3 Heralds and My fourth Vitesse in the garage. I may have forgotten some... It's my age.. Oh , Honda 400 four.. Terrifying! And the 2 Renault 5s. Oh, and the Ford Granada 3 litre estate..I think that's the lot.

5'7", size 10 shoes  and had to have the original seats all the way back. Also have a small steering wheel as the original rubs my legs, same with a TR6. Now I've Mazda seats and they almost touch the rear seats.

I've no idea how you lot fit!

If in doubt, do up until you hear the crack and then go another 1/4 turn to ensure tightness.

I am also quite tall but the seat itself in my newly aquired 13/60 convertible is not the issue.

I saw a Video which showed an early Herald Version where the steering column could be adjusted up and down. If I could adjust mine up that would help a lot but having removed the bottom clamp and the other column supports, there does not seem to be any adjustment possible?

Is there a trick? Or is the Position for the later Heralds fixed?

never heard of any up n down adjustment but yes to in/out which, as the column is angled, does also give a some change in the height of the wheel relative to the seat base....
