I have been helping a friend to restore his 13/60. When the car is on the flat the engine runs without a problem, it starts first time and runs evenly. The drive from his house goes up a slope. If the car is left on the slope with the engine running after a couple of minutes it cuts out. When back on the flat of the drive it starts and runs. There is petrol in the tank.
Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the cutting out problem please?

That sounds like the fuel pump is struggling with the extra lift. This could be down to the pump (valves not sealing, crudded up gauze filter) or a tiny leak in the feed pipes (hose out of the tank, perhaps) or, if the tank is not entirely full, a rusty pick-up pipe.

My 13/60 used to stop regularly after a long layup,it was the pickup in the tank sucking up crud,i had to blow in the pipe to clear it.In the end i removed the tank and used one of the sealers to coat the inside, fine since.

One area to look apart from the previous ideas is the notorious  short hose from tank top to bundy in the boot ,  this goes hard and you can suck air , but not leak much in the way of fuel
The pump just sucks air when extra load or more gravity overcome .

if you have a clear filter , see if there are bubbles in the supply

1964 1600 Vitesse 6 Cactus and Black , now  sold
now have T2000   Mk2 saloon in French Blue/grey trim  been  restored without running since 1997
now has power steering ,poly bushed and Alfa 156 seats
