Firstly, the bonnet adjusting bar is located outboard of the side valance, with the Mk2 the valance is bulged and the bolt goes through the valance first.
Secondly, the front extensions on the Mk2 splay out from parallel, with an additional fillet further splayed out to meet the front bar. this chassis lacks either feature.

Appears to have an ARB on the front. Was this retro-fitted, as I didn't think the early cars had them?

To my knowledge, all but perhaps one or more of the earliest prototypes had the front ARB. Meanwhile, I admit, in looking the pictures of the Coupé, to being fascinated by what looks to be a double- or triple-decker brake master cylinder reservoir!

That's what I'm in the process of doing with my coupe. Can't decide if to go rotoflex or swing spring on rear

The only production Heralds which lacked an ARB were the Courier Vans, unless you include the Indian cars, which are different in so many ways,

The centre seat belt mountings are in a strange position? Mine are both mounted further forwards and lower down.

It's a DIY installation in a car which may not have been fitted with seatbelts when built.

I have just bought a 1959 coupe  from my brother its a low mileage car that has been dry stored for many years (since 1970) they are in my humble opinion the prettiest of all of the Herald variants and I hope to have it back on the road very soon.
It has the 948 engine with twin SUs and while I don't expect great performance I do think it will have a superb presence enhanced by my intention to do as little as possible so as  to  retain  its "survivor patina"

Wonder why it requires so much fluid? I'm not sure that mod would be leak-free, not to mention safe...



If it was made by man, it can be dismantled and rebuilt by man. Usually just not as easily.

I do hope you'll be able to do as little as possible not just to maintain the "patina" but also to maintain many original details, some of which changed soon after that car was built and many of which are so easily lost during a "restoration"! Just two examples of that would be the "peaked" doors and the small rubber boots on the bulkhead where the pedals like to the master cylinders.

It helps that my pockets are not very deep at the moment but I will eventually have to repaint her because the paint has lost a great deal of its ability to remain attached to the car but I will be repainting it in the same colors and I simply can't afford to re-chrome the bright work that has the inevitable pitting none the less I am trying to be sensitive about it Things like the peddle rubbers will remain unchanged unless they totally crack up and then I may have to go to the later style simply because I don't think identical replacements can be bought from any of the usual suspects.
I went over the brakes yesterday and was delighted to find that the front shoes look brand new and the back ones have tons of meat left on them as well so once I have fixed the very minor  damage to the bonnet only a set of tyres and a couple of very minor issues like a generator light that stays on stand between me and driving her on the road
