Hi, I have purchased a new primary handbrake cable but it's been so long since I dismantled the car that I have forgotten how the old one was fitted. The cable is fitted with a spring and a collar. It looks as though the spring and collar should go inside the car against the tube but it is not possible to thread the cable from the inside to the outside because the bracket on the other end is too large and the end of the cable has a fitted nipple. If I thread the cable from the outside to the inside, the spring is undeneath the car just floating up and down with nothing to brace against. Should I fit some kind of clamp to the cable? Im very confused, can somebody help please?

It goes from the outside in and there is supposed to be a clamp on the cable for the spring to push against.

Hi thanks for the replies. That makes perfect sense now. Neither of my manuals show the clamp!
