Ive just bought a 1963 1600 Vitesse and the gearbox is past its life. When I got the car the Chaps gave me a 2000 Vitesse recon box in the deal.

My questions are.

Would it be possible to stright swap the 2000 box into the 1600 Vitesse ?

I know the output flanges are different, but are the propshaft bolts in the same place?

Is the 1st motion ( Output shaft ) the same size ?

What 3 piece clutch do I use  2000 or 1600 ? are the cover plates the same?

Are the length dimensions the same?

The mainshaft spline is the same so you can swap the tail coupling

input shafts are identical.  Some have scroll seal check this by  remove front cover from bell hsg. looking inside might need to swap this for a seal type

if you want to convert the 1600 coil spring cover to a 2 ltr diaphragm you need a 2 ltr withdrawl
Bearing and its carrier and need to add dowels as they are in diferent positions
or fit a 2ltr flywheel

I know first and reverse are lower geared on the 1600 than the 2L but the change would probably be a good thing especially as first will now have synchro....

Flywheel straight swap but the square flange from the 1600 'box won't fit the 2 litre 'box so you'll have to fit the round flange from a 2 Litre propshaft to the front of the existing 1600 propshaft.

Memory jog from mark,   there are two coupling types , swapped all this on my 1600 but had overdrive so coupling not a problem,

you should be able to get a prop uj flange easy to pop the cups and refit a replacement coipling

if you do take it off the gearbox its simple undo nut and pull maybe a light tap the coupling slides off the shaft

Its not a press fit

to do the prop you need circlip pliers and a good vice  a selection of sockets to fit inside the cup to press out and a larger one to  clear  the outcoming cup.

As Mark says, the flywheel is a straight swap BUT ONLY for an EARLY (and this means very early) 2L Vitesse. Engines from HC5000 on (yes, five thousand) have the later, large bearing crank with bigger flywheel bolts, common to the Mk2.

Sorry, forgot about that....  Flywheel can be redrilled though.... or just use the very early flywheel from a MKl engine but NOT from the 2000 Saloon, heavier and altogether different flywheel.

As the OP wants to fit a 2L flywheel on a 1600, it won't be a case of redrilling but rather sleeving the bolt holes, surely? I'm not entirely sure whether there's any other difference between early and late 2L flywheels.

Sleeves can be obtained from Rimmers, as far as I know. I have used the sleeves to fit a 1500 Spit flywheel to my 13/60. Cheers, Dave.
