No connection to car or seller but have just spotted an interesting Vitesse saloon for sale

http://www.carnellclassiccars.co.uk/listing/triumph-vittese-2ltr-stage-one/

According to the advert the car has been prepared to to race/rally spec including a stage one 2ltr engine coupled to a 5 speed gearbox

Is a five speed gearbox conversion a common/popular upgrade to Vitesses?

Advert states work took around 3 years and was completed in 2012 at a cost of over £50,000 with every receipt in date order from Jigsaw racing

Currently for sale at £22,500 - I can not recall seeing such an expensive Vitesse saloon before but obviously a huge amount has been spent to get it into its current condition

Well, I do like it.

However, £22k is a shed load of money for a Vitesse, no matter how much the build cost.

Also original, or at least original spec cars usually command top money, and this isn't.  I'm not even sure whether it's a mk 1 or Mk2, though inclined to think the base car was Mk2.  It has features of both.  Mk1 external looks (good IMO), Mk2 engine (good IMO), probably roto rear, probably CV shafts (good IMO).  Presumably a Ford T9 gearbox fitted, which is good provided it's the v6 version.

Seats possibly Alfa ones (good) and interior looks nice.

My biggest gripe...... why paint a Vitesse to look like a Lotus Cortina??

That is stupid money! For the faults that are there I'd expect the asking price to be lower. Front over riders look to be on the piss, and missing the alloy bumper covers. The car does look nice overall, but I can not see how it can warrant that as an asking price!

Never seen a race or rally car with so much interior, a radio, carpets etc and no roll cage and harness...

'Rally-Spec' has to be sales-speak. Maybe it adds £10k to the price? Jonny's right, it conjures up knobbly tires and a stripped out interior. 'Fast Road' is more like it, a slightly tweaked standard car with all the creature comforts. I like it, but at half the price.

Nice looking Car in the Lotus Cortina Colours but an unrealistic price to say the least!

You can never recoup what you spend on a Herald/Vitesse especially when you pay a specialist to do the work?

The seats may be MGF.

I do like it, but as everyone else says it's a bit pricey. Think I'd be changing the green stripe to red or blue

It does look nicely put together, but that price

I do wonder what the black spots are on both cills? Modified jacking points?

Seems to line up with the middle outrigger so you jacking point suggestion seems like a good guess.

If the green stripe was pale blue instead it would a reversal of the works cars colours and more fitting perhaps......

It is "Road-Rally" spec, for events such as regularities by the look of it. Evoking the classic events of the sixties etc.

And is that a Halda on the dash??

There's a couple of grand of the asking price if it is.

"race/rally spec"?

Wood-rimmed steering wheel - Tick.  Ditto Halda, map reading light and some stop watches.
But no roll cage, no extinguisher, no FIA cut-out, three point seat belts (OK for some hillclimbing, but not rallies), and those very low-slung wheel-barrow exhausts.
And "Stage 1"?    It has a tubular manifold, but it's still running Strombergs, for goodness sake.

If the advertisers had gone for a little less hyperbole, this could well be described as a "gentleman's luxury touring car", no expence spared.
Lovely, if rather over priced.
As it is they can and should be mocked for being just silly.
