Ben

Is there any news on this yet?
I can't help thinking it's unlikely, but it would be great.

Still no news, sadly.  In fact, JK hasn't posted to the Herald yahoogroup for a while.  Hope he's okay...

JK is fine I spoke to him a week or two ago. He is busy again having come out of retirement to take on a new business (new to him). Unfortunately the subject of Dixy didn't come up in our conversation so I'm not aware of what was planned for her. I have fond memories of Dixy she being my first Herald restoration back in the 80's. The poor old girl then went on to live a very hard life variously being used by Fiona Kipping, or abused by various Kipping staff as a loan/company car. I recall having to drag her in from various locations where 'considerate' staff had abandoned her due to running out of fuel, flat batteries, and the like. She was looking rather weather worn again by the time she emigrated having spent the year previously parked up in one of the sheds here at Fillongley. I must have pictures of her when under restoration at our first workshop in Attleborough Fields Industrial Estate somewhere?

I have a picture of it!!!

I first saw this thread today and it rang a bell. The photo is of its arse in a barn. It's from a TSSC magazine from a few years ago so I'm not sure if I can post it here. So what I'll do is scan in the whole article and send it to you via a private massage later. Unless an admin says I can post it here for all to see.

It's nothing special. In short the guy who did the Vitesse register went around the world and visited John Kipping. One month he included a photo saying "can you guess who owns these cars?".  Even Dave replied to it as he's quoted two issues later.
I'll scan that as well for you.

Acclaim - fully working and on the road
13/60 Herald - mx5 powered and other such fun things, legal enough...
Mk1 2000 - it's still alive, just sleeping
Expert 815d - the slug

If in doubt, do up until you hear the crack and then go another 1/4 turn to ensure tightness.

That's the guy. It was in issue 458, Feb 2001, page 38. He says you were the first to reply and said "this one's easy, as I built both of these cars many years ago, spent a bit of time co-driving 50 JK with Club Triumph around Britian three times, West africa Safari etc. 596 DXX (Dixie) spent most of its life as a fleet company car - it had to be rescured several times after being abandoned by varios employees".

Scanning now.

This story reminds me of some research I did trying to find my Dad's first sports car, a very early Ginetta G4 convertible with a removable hardtop. After 3 weeks of constant phoning, emailing and dead ends I eventually found his car alive and well in the States! It had been through 2 restorations and has a 2L Lotus engine now though, but I felt so good to have found it.

I contacted the current owner, and although he assured me that the car wasn't going to be for sale for many, many years he was good enough to email me some photos he had from the period my father owned it and up until now. I had these professionally printed out and I bought a Ginetta key fob and gave them to my Dad for Christmas last year. At first he just thought they were some old photos of a stripped ouot sports car, but then the shape and vents he made appeared and it dawned on him which car he was looking at. It's an odd feeling making your Dad cry in sadness and happyness at the same time.

It's such a great feeling when you find an old car that you let go many many years ago, and even better if you manage to buy it, so I really hope that this works out and you can get back what should have been yours. Good luck with the purchace and transporting etc,

This thread has gone a bit quiet!

I admit it, it was me that told Ben where Dixie was located.

It was also me that went along with Fiona, later Mrs.Kipping, to the house in Wimbledon, where I lived before I emigrated in 2002, during the mid 1980's to inspect Dixie prior to the Kippings buying it.

I also sent Ben a couple of photos that I took of the car, parked in a very small driveway behind a Volvo of some kind.

I hope Dixie finds her way back to the UK, perhaps Ben needs to take a holiday to NZ ?

A VERY nice country.

Best Regards

LLU

For various reasons, I've been pre-occupied.  Have renewed interest in getting the car back to Canley for a full restoration, so will be contacting JK in the next few days.

And, yes, that may mean getting on a plane to NZ, which I'm perfectly prepared to do...

Watch this space!
