Dr. Dave is Dave Pearson of Canley Classics

Club Triumph Round Britain Reliability Run (Part of the organising team, what a team)!
RBRR is the best car event in the UK, not probably, it is!

1970 GT6 Mk.2: Royal Blue 6 RBRRs (98, 00,02,04,06 & 10), 2 10CRs (03 & 07). 2 HCRs 1 LCC, lots of Autosolos and numerous track days. Bought in 1983, crikey where did the time go! Now running the Roy Lacey cooling system!

1969 2.5Pi Mk.1: Slate Grey 3 10CRs (05,09 & 15), 3 RBRRs (08, 12 & 16), 3 HCRs, 2 LCCs. A few alloy panels, does need the pi kit fitting. Bought April '04. Needs paint! Just fitted some new 7J Minilites-not copies!

1967 Spitfire mk2: Wedgewood Blue. Bought November 2010. Almost seems civilised. Car has done a RBRR (Dave Picton 2010). Blimey, could be on the road soon!

Well the car has been located.  That's the good news.
The owner is John Kipping, who is a well-known Herald nut and is likely to have taken very good care of it.  That's also good news.
However, JK emigrated to New Zealand, and took the car with him.  That's the bad news.

John has very kindly agreed to sell me the car, if I pay for shipping back to the UK - which is fine by me.  Negotiations are under way.  John seems to be a very busy chap, so I don't want to bug him too much and become an irritant.  I'm in no hurry, really, either.

So, anyone know any shipping agents on the South Island?

Ok, so it looks like the car is going to be on its way back to the UK.

Anyone have any suggestions on a firm who'll take on the task of restoring the car?  Trouble is, I don't know what state it's in currently.

If it helps, my "home" is Essex (though I live in the Middle East atm).

Is it best to go to a Triumph specialist, or someone local to Essex, or just someone who's good?

I'll try to write up my experiences so far, and see what I can gather from my family and friends to see who remembers anything about it.  I'll try to keep a "journal" of sorts as we go along.

BTW, I did my club membership application yesterday!

Cheers,
Ben

Have a word with Dave Pearson at Canley Classics, I bet he knows the car - Dave was John's spanner man for years and I bet he knows this car already!

Good thinking, Jason, and you're right.  Dave restored the car for John 20 years ago!

I understood that Canley Classics are snowed under with work.  I kind of thought that they might not be interested.

But it might suit me if they do a bit at a time as and when they're not too busy with other stuff...

Oh yes they are snowed under and I know that they are turning away work but this is kinda special - it's not that often you get a car that's been around the world back home! You can but ask and I reckon it would be a nice touch to have the Coupe back under the Pearson spanner! As for keeping a log, why not try a Blog? See http://www.bloger.com for a free one -it's a weB LOG and it's about the easiest way to create a web site that you want to update regularly.

Well, it's all gone a bit quiet.  I did email John last week, and am awaiting reply.

I've been enjoying reading the club mag, though - a thrill to see my name on the new members page a couple of issues ago (despite the little white lie about /current/ ownership...!

I'll keep you all posted - that's for sure.

Cheers,
Ben

Only just found this thread. Wow, it was really uplifting – just what I need first thing on a Monday morning when I'm supposed to be working! I'm on the edge of my seat hoping that everything works out in the end.

That's what I like to hear although I can't take all the credit.

Ben, you must write this up for the magazine the moment the car sets foot (wheel?) on British soil again – I think a lot of people would love to read about it.  You could always do a follow up or two later on when Canley's have worked their magic.

Sadly, no progress.  I'm still working on it.

Ben

Is there any news on this yet?
I can't help thinking it's unlikely, but it would be great.
